Did you know you can grow shiitake mushrooms in your home garden? With proper inoculation and safety protocol, the right species of tree logs, a shady environment, and some patience, you can grow fresh, healthy shiitake mushrooms.

Join Matt Jones (Extension Horticulture Agent) and the Master Gardener Volunteers of Chatham County for a webinar and hands-on workshop on how to grow shiitake mushrooms yourself! The pre-recorded webinar will be released to registrants on March 2. Watch the lecture in advance of hands-on inoculation workshop on March 5, 2022 (10 a.m.-1 p.m.). The workshop costs $20 per person, and registration of this pilot program is limited to twenty people. This program is aimed primarily at gardeners, so the economics and business practices of growing mushrooms commercially will not be covered. For more on commercial shiitake production, see: https://newcropsorganics.ces.ncsu.edu/specialty-crops/mushrooms/

Registrants will be sent the pre-recorded webinar and additional information to prepare for the March 5th workshop. March 12 will serve as an alternative date in case of rain.
