Insect trap in apple orchardOverall insect pressure is low at this time. While degree-day models indicate that codling moth and oriental fruit moth are in the 3rd and 4th generations, respectively, trap captures remain low throughout the area. This is expected when high levels of control of earlier generations were achieved. Apple maggot trap captures have also been very low, even in our abandoned site.

Brown marmorated stink bug on later-maturing cultivars remains the key pest of concern, and will be so for about the next month. Based on degree-day model predictions, first generation adult emergence is approximately 40% complete in Henderson and Wilkes counties, and 70% in Cleveland county. However, pheromone trap captures have been lower than expected to date.
