Description: NCA&T Partners with Avery & Watauga Extension for AgriShop & Academy series, 2/27/19 - 2/28/19

On February 27 & 28, 2019, specialists from NCA&T State University will partner with Cooperative Extension in Watauga and Avery Counties and Trosly Farm to teach two days of workshops and classes. ,February 27 at Trosly Farm in Avery County will cover the basics of market gardening, high tunnel management, innovative small farm tools, and vegetable crop planning, along with an introduction to industrial hemp possibilities for the region. On February 28, the workshops will continue with programs on Heirloom Tomato Production and Ginger Production.

Description: Do you lack space to garden, do you rent your home, or are the deer eating your garden? Then growing vegetables in containers may be your solution. On April 25th, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Watauga Agricultural Conference Center located at 252 Poplar Grove Rd in Boone, the Watauga office of North Carolina Cooperative Extension will be offering a class on Growing Vegetables in Containers. Come learn what vegetables can grow well in containers, how to pick the right size container, the type of soil to use, and how to get the plants started. The class will conclude with everyone starting their own lettuce container garden to take home to grow. $10 fee to cover the cost of pots, soil and seedlings will be collected the day of the class. If you wish to observe class without creating a container garden to take home, there is no charge. To register call the Watauga Extension office at 828-264-3061 or email paige_patterson@ncsu.edu

Description: Join this dinner time celebration kicking off the local food season and learn to fill your plate with delicious farm fresh ingredients.

Using inspiration from local food producers, we will create delicious dishes from appetizer to dessert, and then have a wonderful dinner.

Classes will be led by Extension Agent (Nutrition and Foods) Margie Mansure and Extension Agent (Livestock) Eddy Labus.

Class meets on Wednesdays, May 1st and 8th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Watauga County Agricultural Conference Center, located at 252 Poplar Grove Rd, Boone.

You may email Kirsten Dillman at kirsten_dillman@ncsu.edu or call our office at 828.264.3061 to sign up. The cost is $35 for both classes or $20 for one. To secure your spot, please pay in advance at our office, NC Cooperative Extension, Watauga, located at 971 W. King St, Boone. Payment can also be mailed in after calling to sign up. Checks should be made payable to Watauga CES.
