Description:

The Watauga County office of N.C. Cooperative Extension will be offering a Mediterranean Cooking Class Series: Med Instead of Meds for Better Health.

Join this series of four classes on Thursday evenings from 4:00 pm until 6:30 pm to prepare foods that fit into the classic Mediterranean way of eating, and then enjoy dinner together.

Classes will be held at the Agricultural Conference Center at 252 Poplar Grove Rd, Boone on August 23 & 30 and September 6 & 13, 2018.

Eating like those who live in the Mediterranean region has been shown to promote health and decrease risk of many chronic diseases.  Eating this way is not only healthy, it is delicious and satisfying.  Check out medinsteadofmeds.com.

Class size is limited so reserve your space in advance.  Fee is $60 for all four classes and includes dinner each day.  Payment can be made at the Cooperative Extension office at 971 West King St, Boone, 28607.  We can accept cash or checks only.  Checks should be made payable to Watauga NCCES.

Description: The North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Ashe County Center and the AgroMedicine Institute will host a respirator fit test certification day at Family Central.  The day will begin at 9:00 a.m. until at least 4:30 p.m., possibly later.  We will be able to fit test 4 individuals every 15 minutes, so you will be required to sign up in a time slot.

Participants will need to have a medical clearance before attending.  This can be completed online at one of the following websites: www.resptest.com (scroll down to single clearance), www.respexam.com or www.respclearance.com. If a physician is required or you prefer to see a
physician, Ashe Medical Associates will be able to complete the medical compliance.  Please fill out the OSHA questionnaire and take with you along with the medical clearance form for the doctor to fill out. Bring a copy of the medical clearance with you. These documents can be found at ashe.ces.ncsu.edu/respfit/

Only those spraying chemicals that require a respirator (i.e. Dimethoate
and Gramoxone) will require a fit test. This year it includes those who will be doing the mixing and anyone spraying by mistblower. Farm owners are not exempt.

Do not buy respirators before being respirator fit tested.  The
AgroMedicine Institute has worked with Grainger so farms can
receive their discount on personal protective equipment.

Please call the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Ashe County Center at (336) 846-5850 to schedule a time to be fitted.
