Watauga County Announces Summer Culinary Series

Hands-on Canning Class (FULL)


Saturday, June 11th, 10 am – 1 pm

Want to learn how to preserve your summer bounty safely? During this hands-on workshop, you will learn the science behind canning methods, which to choose, and how to use both a pressure canner and a boiling water bath. All recipes provided are tested by the Extension Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture for safety.

Create Your Own Grain Bowl!(FULL)


Tuesday, June 21st, 10 am – 1 pm

Ever wonder what to do with leftover rice or quinoa? What about that rotisserie chicken? Whether planned or ad lib, a grain bowl makes a delicious and complete meal. In this class, you’ll roast veggies, cook up grains using the pilaf method, and make sauces for topping. Then use your creativity to assemble your meal!

Not Just Basil Pesto


Tuesday, June 28th, 10 am – 1 pm

When you think of making pesto, do you think basil? Join us to get creative with basil pesto and discover other greens and herbs that you may use. We’ll make arugula, cilantro, kale and parsley pesto and use in ways you may have never considered. Since pesto freezes well, you’ll never need to throw out the last of the bunch again!

 Asian Sampler Class (FULL)


Tuesday, July 5th, 10 am – 1 pm

During this class, you’ll use the freshest, locally grown ingredients to master several Asian favorites. Soft spring rolls, Moo Shu shrimp and fried rice. With new skills and recipes in hand, you are sure to impress any dinner guest!

Fresh Summer Salads and Salad Dressings


Tuesday, July 12th, 10 am – 1 pm

In the heart of summer, this class gives salads the spotlight. You’ll have the freshest of ingredients to creatively put together. Then learn the basics of salad dressing making, in the amount that you need. Never wonder when you opened that bottle of dressing again!
